Expert opinion and recommendation

The KTM 390 Duke BS6 is a great bike to own. It has a smooth and powerful engine, great handling, and is packed with features. The bike is light and agile, making it perfect for city riding and commuting. The 390 Duke BS6 is also great for touring, thanks to its comfortable seating and easy-to-use controls. The suspension on the bike is firm and responsive, giving the bike great handling characteristics. The quickshifter may be a bit of a letdown, but it still serves as a great talking point among your friends. The brakes provide good stopping power and the ABS ensures safe braking in all conditions. The 390 Duke BS6 is a great all-rounder, making it a great choice for anyone looking for a reliable, fun-to-ride motorcycle.

There is speculation that the KTM 390 SMC R might not be sold in India, which has disappointed many KTM enthusiasts in the country. Fans are hoping that KTM India will reconsider and bring this supermoto to the Indian market. I think the demand for such a bike is high, and it would be a great addition to KTMs Indian lineup.

KTM has revealed the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. This new model is lighter, quicker, and more powerful than its predecessor, with a new design inspired by KTMs Dakar Rally bikes. The bike retains the 399 cc, single-cylinder engine but is expected to have different gearing ratios. I believe this will make it a strong contender in the adventure touring segment.
November 6, 2024
The 2024 KTM 390 Duke has undergone significant updates, including improvements in its engine and suspension. The bike now features a smoother engine and enhanced riding comfort, as evident from the first service update where the bike felt butter smooth after the service. I think these updates will make the 2024 model more appealing to riders who value both performance and comfort.
March 4, 2024
The 2024 KTM 390 Duke has been compared to other bikes in its segment, such as the TVS Apache RTR 310 and the Triumph Speed 400. These comparisons highlight the Dukes strong performance and feature set, making it a competitive option in the market. I think the Dukes balance of power and handling will continue to attract many buyers.

The India-spec 2024 KTM 390 Duke differs from the international model in several aspects, including specifications and features. For instance, the Indian version may have different suspension settings and engine tuning to suit local road conditions. I believe these adjustments will help in making the bike more suitable for Indian riders.

KTM Duke 390 Detailed Info

Engine and Performance

Mechanically, the 2025 Duke 390 remains unchanged, powered by a 398.63 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This engine produces 46 HP of power at 8500 rpm and 39 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm, paired with a six-speed gearbox featuring a bi-directional quickshifter. The engine is renowned for its responsiveness and agility, making the Duke 390 a joy to ride in both urban and highway environments.

Key Features

  1. Cruise Control: The most significant update for the 2025 model is the introduction of cruise control, borrowed from the KTM 390 Adventure. This feature enhances the bike's touring capabilities by allowing riders to maintain a constant speed without constant throttle input. The cruise control is easily engaged via a dedicated button on the switchgear and can be adjusted using a rocker switch.
  2. Ride Modes: The Duke 390 offers three ride modes—Rain, Track, and Road—each optimized for different riding conditions. These modes adjust parameters like traction control and ABS to provide the best possible performance and safety.
  3. Traction Control and ABS: The bike features Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC) and cornering ABS, which are crucial for maintaining stability, especially during aggressive cornering or slippery conditions.
  4. Instrument Console: The 5-inch TFT display provides essential information like speed, gear position, and navigation. It also supports smartphone connectivity, allowing riders to receive call and SMS alerts and control music playback.
  5. Suspension: The Duke 390 is equipped with adjustable WP APEX suspension at both ends, offering riders the flexibility to customize the setup based on their riding style or weight.

Safety Features

  • Dual-Channel ABS: Ensures safe braking by preventing wheel lock-up.
  • Cornering ABS: Provides additional stability during cornering.
  • Launch Control: Helps in achieving quick starts without wheel spin.
  • Traction Control: Prevents loss of traction during acceleration.

Dimensions and Capacity

  • Seat Height: 820 mm, which is relatively high but suitable for most riders.
  • Ground Clearance: 183 mm, providing ample clearance for Indian road conditions.
  • Fuel Tank Capacity: 15 liters, sufficient for long rides.
  • Kerb Weight: 168.3 kg, making it agile and easy to maneuver.

Price and Availability

The 2025 KTM Duke 390 is priced at ?2.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), maintaining its competitive position in the market. The introduction of cruise control and new color schemes might lead to a slight price increase in future updates, but for now, it remains unchanged.

Conclusion

The 2025 KTM Duke 390 is a refined iteration of a successful model, offering a blend of performance, style, and advanced features. With its powerful engine, versatile ride modes, and now, cruise control, it is well-suited for both city rides and long-distance touring. The Duke 390 continues to be a top choice for enthusiasts seeking a fun and capable motorcycle in the mid-size segment.

ktm rc390 is the fastest bike in the segment . But it looses its crown towards ninja 300 in terms of top speed . ninja has a top speed of 190km/hr and rc does 179 ( due to the rev limiter ) . Ninja attains the same speed as rc 390 in 13,000 rpm and rc 390 does it in 10,000 rpm so i think kiirus tuned rc can go beyond 190 km/hr and beat ninja . In malasia they have " power tronic " remaped rc 250's which does 200 km/hr and just guss what will the top speed of 390's . check powertronics malesia

This baby is just awesome... I am a proud owner of this baby Duke...
Duke390 overshadows most of the bikes in its categories. I wont say that its perfect but whatever the problems it has I can live with it.
I will note them down :
1) Tank capacity is small : You can go 200 kms in full tank. (Not an issue. Are many petrol pump within 200 kms)
2) Engine heats up a lot in bumper to bumper traffic. (Not a n issue because any bike of single cylinder with 400 cc will heat up like that until and unless its fully faired )
3) Seat is hard and your AS* will start paining after a while. (You can change the seat to gel based seat and modification is pretty cheap. Even though I like the stock one more)
4) You need to lube your chain in every 500 kms. (That goes same with every performance bike)
5) Millage is very less. (Common man are you looking for performance or milleage. Go buy a Hero Splendor )

If you just leave these few things then you have hell lot of things that you will love about this bike.

I will Note down few :

1) It's 44 bhp crazy machine. (0-60 : 2.3 secs, 0-100 : 5.5 secs)
2) Bosch ABS.
3) Excellent Power to weight ratio. (same as 2012 aston martin vantage v12)
4) Metzeler tyres which stick to road like anything.
5) Upside Down Forks
6) Trellis Frame for better stability.

It has the ability and power to take you that much closer to GOD if you are not careful enough!

Because "Its KTM thing : You won't Understand"

Do look to my channel for Duke390 motovlogs and yes don't forget to subscribe :

There's no point in comparing one bike with another in last the thing which really matters is which byk makes "U" happy
Ktm great performance with such low cost
Where as ninja nd R3 are priced higher just for the purity of the performance they deliver it's not always about the power or speed
It's all about the quality of ride that the byk gives or which one suites u best
We can't judge others decision :-)
