Expert opinion and recommendation

The Harley-Davidson Street Rod is a mixed bag, especially when considered for the Indian market. While it addresses several shortcomings of its predecessor, the Street 750, such as improved brakes, better fit and finish, and enhanced power, it still falls short in several key areas. The riding position is often described as awkward, with high foot pegs and a low seat, which can be uncomfortable for riders with longer legs. The suspension, although improved, can feel harshly stiff, making it less confident to push the bike hard, especially on rough Indian roads. The engine heat is another significant issue, particularly in traffic, where it can become unbearable. Despite these issues, the Street Rod does offer good handling, a smooth and torquey engine, and top-notch braking. However, its overall ergonomics and heat management make it less suitable for urban riding in India.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

Harley-Davidson has not announced any new models or significant updates for the Street Rod in their 2024 lineup. This suggests that the Street Rod may not be a priority for the company in the current year. I think this could be a missed opportunity, as the Street Rod has a loyal following.

There has been no official word from Harley-Davidson on the continuation or discontinuation of the Street Rod for the Indian market in 2024. This lack of clarity leaves potential buyers in limbo. I believe clarity on this would help in maintaining customer trust.
March 15, 2024
In recent years, Harley-Davidson has shifted its focus towards more touring and adventure bikes, such as the Pan America series, which might indicate a reduced emphasis on street-focused models like the Street Rod. This shift could impact the availability of the Street Rod in India. I think this shift is strategic but may disappoint some fans of the Street Rod.
February 21, 2024
The Indian market has seen a rise in demand for more affordable and performance-oriented motorcycles, which could make the Street Rod less competitive if it does not receive significant updates. Harley-Davidson needs to consider this market dynamic to keep the Street Rod relevant. I believe a refresh with modern features could help.
January 25, 2024
Historically, the Street Rod has been known for its sporty design and performance capabilities. However, with the absence of any recent updates, it remains to be seen whether Harley-Davidson will revamp this model to keep it competitive in the Indian market. I think a design overhaul would be welcome.

Price

Pricing details and changes

The Harley-Davidson Street Rod 750 is priced at around 5.86 lakhs ex-showroom in India. When you factor in the on-road costs, including registration, insurance, and other taxes, the price can easily exceed 7 lakhs. This premium pricing is justified to some extent by the improvements over the Street 750, such as the new Michelin tires, upgraded suspension, and better braking. However, for many potential buyers, especially those comparing it to other motorcycles in the same segment, the price might seem steep. The competition, such as the Kawasaki Z650, offers similar or better performance at a lower price point, making the Street Rod a less attractive option for budget-conscious buyers.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The mileage of the Harley-Davidson Street Rod 750 in India is not its strongest suit. Given its 749cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine, the bike is not designed for fuel efficiency. Real-world mileage can vary, but you can expect around 20-25 kml in mixed riding conditions. This is relatively low compared to other motorcycles in its class, which can be a significant factor for riders who plan to use the bike for daily commuting or long tours. The engines higher compression ratio and increased torque do come at the cost of higher fuel consumption, making it essential for potential buyers to consider their riding habits and fuel costs before making a decision. ABOUT The Harley-Davidson Street Rod 750 is a significant improvement over its predecessor, the Street 750, but it still has its share of quirks. The bike features a 749cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine with a higher compression ratio of 121, resulting in increased torque of 65 Nm. It comes equipped with new 43 mm upside-down forks and dual shocks in the rear, which offer better handling and suspension travel. The bike also boasts wider Michelin tires and dual disc brakes with ABS, enhancing its braking performance. However, the ergonomics remain a concern, with high foot pegs and a low seat that can be uncomfortable for taller riders. The engine heat is another issue, particularly in traffic. Despite these challenges, the Street Rod offers a smooth and linear power delivery, making it a fun ride on twisty roads and highways. It is a bike that is more suited for touring and sport riding rather than urban commuting, and its price reflects its premium features and brand heritage.

Harley-Davidson Street Rod 750 Quick Review by Maxabout Team

Based on the underpinnings of Street 750, the Harley Davidson Street Rod 750 offers a more powerful engine with a style beyond any other offering in this segment. With a high output revolution X engine at its heart, the Street Rod 750 competes in the market with the likes of Triumph Street Twin and Bonneville range in its segment.

As the engine specifications are concerned, the Harley Davidson Street Rod 750 is powered by a 749cc, High Output Revolution X™ V-Twin engine with a Mikuni Twin Port Fuel Injection system capable of churning out a maximum torque of 62 NM @ 4000 rpm and 11 per cent more horsepower as compared to the Street 750. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with 36:68 ratio. Specifically made for the urban youth, the new Street Rod 750 cruiser gives a sportier stance. Coming to the design, it gets flat handlebars with a drag style quotient and new foldable rear view mirrors giving it an aggressive styling. It gets a seat height of 765 mm which is slightly higher than the one offered in Street 750 in order to offer a maximum comfort ride with that seating position.

The suspension duties are handled by USD Telescopic Forks at the front while the rear wheel gets twin shock absorbers. The Harley Davidson Street Rod 750 gets a kerb weight of 238 kgs which is 5kgs more than its sibling and offers a faster acceleration. A ground clearance of 205 mm is suitable to handle on the bike well on sharper corners as well as the new radial tyres (120/70-17 & 160/60-17) offers stability over the road. It gets a double disc brake at the front while single disc brakes at the rear. It offers ABS as standard in order to avoid utmost control while braking and traction control.  The Harley Davidson Street Rod 750 is available in the market in 3 stunning shades- Olive Gold, Charcoal Denim, Vivid Black.
