Expert opinion and recommendation

The Bajaj Avenger Street 180 is a compelling package for those seeking an affordable cruiser in the Indian market. It retains the classic Avenger styling with updates such as LED DRLs and a redesigned tail section, which enhance its visual appeal. The engine, borrowed from the Pulsar 180 but detuned for a smoother ride, delivers 15.3hp and 13.7Nm of torque, making it suitable for both city traffic and highway cruising. While it lacks ABS and a rear disc brake, the front 260mm disc brake provides adequate stopping power. The bikes comfort, particularly for both the rider and pillion, is noteworthy, although some users have reported issues with the fuel indicator and self-start mechanism. Overall, it offers great value for money, especially considering its competitive pricing and the features it brings to the table.

Price

Pricing details and changes

The Bajaj Avenger Street 180 is priced at Rs. 85,498 ex-showroom in Delhi, which is a significant advantage over its closest rival, the Suzuki Intruder 150, by about Rs. 15,000. On-road prices, including taxes and other charges, can vary by state but generally fall in the range of Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 1,10,000. This pricing makes the Avenger 180 an attractive option for those looking for an affordable cruiser without compromising on performance and features. The premium of just Rs. 5,000 over the discontinued Avenger Street 150 is well justified by the added power and new styling elements.

About

General information and overview

The Bajaj Avenger Street 180 is a cruiser that blends style, comfort, and performance. It features a 178.6cc air-cooled engine sourced from the Pulsar 180, but tuned to produce 15.3hp at 8,500rpm and 13.7Nm of torque at 6,500rpm, ensuring a smooth and relaxed ride. The bike boasts a new headlight with LED DRLs, a redesigned tail section, and a faux carbon-fibre textured seat. The suspension is well-tuned, providing a comfortable ride even on bumpy roads. With a 260mm front disc brake and a 130mm rear drum brake, the braking is adequate, though an ABS option would have been a welcome addition. The bike is designed with an urban theme in mind, lacking chrome elements and featuring an all-black finish. It is well-suited for highway cruising at speeds around 90-100 kmph, making it a great choice for those seeking an affordable and capable cruiser.

Vehicle Overview
Bajaj Avenger 180 Street is a replacement model for lesser powerful Avenger 150. It uses a bigger engine and thus, overcomes the problem of least available power faced by various riders. It maintains a decent amount of gap with bigger 220cc Avenger and enables two different selling points within the Avenger range.

Expert Verdict

Professional reviews and expert opinions on Bajaj Avenger 180

Bajaj Avenger 180 Street is currently priced at INR 85,997 (ex-showroom Delhi). This typical model entered India after replacing Avenger 150. The latter was discontinued as buyers complained of lack of power for a motorcycle that’s heavy in comparison to standard street bikes. Bajaj has evenly divided the Avenger series into Street and Cruise variant as those riding in the city could enjoy a lesser bulked version while highway riders get the best out of everything with added goodies. The 180cc engine is available under Street moniker at present while Bajaj could anytime launch a Cruise version at no extra price.

The 180cc engine is available under Street moniker at present while Bajaj could anytime launch a Cruise version at no extra price.

Avenger 180 Street is powered by a 180cc, single cylinder engine producing 15.5 HP at 8500 rpm and 13.7 Nm at 6500 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. This engine is air cooled and uses twin spark technology from Bajaj bikes. It weighs 150 kg and thus, can be claimed a heavyweight in comparison to other 150cc bikes that weight around 135 kg on average. A bulk of this weight comes from extended wheelbase and use of regular parts in place of lightweight parts like most bikes. It carries a 13-liter fuel tank and claims 400+ kilometers of riding range.

Avenger series was basically built to tackle long distance riding and Bajaj Auto could have made bigger changes to this series. They use the same fuel tank on both Cruise and Street models for cost-cutting but one will need a much bigger tank on Cruise series to get better riding range. Street, on the other hand, is decently loaded with attractive alloy wheel design, matte shades and unique headlight design with a small windscreen. No direct rival for this motorcycle exists as Suzuki Intruder is priced much higher in comparison to both Avenger 180 and Avenger 220 Street.
