Expert Verdict
Professional reviews and expert opinions on Yamaha SR400 Retro
Yamaha has retained its values in the form of its classic offerings till date in the motorcycle segment. One of the best examples for the above statement can be seen in the form of Yamaha SR400. The bike offers a full time classic essence, which would be missed every time the rider rides something else.
Yamaha has retained its values in the form of its classic offerings till date in the motorcycle segment. One of the best examples for the above statement can be seen in the form of Yamaha SR400. The bike offers a full time classic essence, which would be missed every time the rider rides something else. The simplest design in the world can be seen on the SR400. Calmness can be seen on each and every element of the motorcycle. The standard old school front headlight looks really good and the body design, especially fuel tank, without the use of stickers increases its classic appeal. Chrome has been extensively used, making its body shine like a star. Every element expects the chassis seems to be wrapped in chrome, making it a sure shot head turner.
The twin circle instrument console is truly analog, keeping the retro style alive. The totally chrome wrapped bowls of science houses a speedometer with odometer at the left and a tachometer at right side. LED indications for high beam, neutral gear indicator, and the turn indicators have been nicely placed below the rpm needle. Yamaha has kept the inner beast still alive after so many decades. The Yamaha SR400 is powered by a 399 cc, single cylinder engine which is air cooled. The engine produces 22.9 BHP @ 6500 rpm and 27.4 NM @ 3000 rpm. For better performance and mileage, electronic fuel injection is provided as standard, refining the true nature of the classic motorcycle.
Yamaha SR400 houses a hydraulic disc brake at the front, measuring 298 mm whereas the rear gets the standard 150 mm drum braking unit. The suspension work is handled by conventional telescopic forks having a travel of 150 mm and the rear is having dual shock system, providing the best riding experience. The Yamaha SR400 seems to be overpriced as you can get much more for the money you spend on the classic motorcycle, but as it is said 'there isn’t a price tag for love', the ones who love vintage looks would go crazy for this one.

If sold at less than Rs 200,000 (on road price), I might buy one myself. But Rs 375,000/- is too steep for such a bike!
