Expert opinion and recommendation

The Yamaha RX 135 4-Speed is a legendary bike that still holds a special place in the hearts of many Indian riders. Its powerful 132cc, single-cylinder, 2-stroke engine delivers a maximum power of 12 BHP and 10 Nm of torque, making it a joy to ride, especially in ghat sections and on highways. The bikes lightweight body and low seat height make it highly maneuverable and comfortable for daily commuting. However, its important to note that the 2-stroke engine comes with its own set of challenges, including lower mileage and higher maintenance costs. Despite being discontinued, the RX 135 remains a sought-after bike for its unique exhaust note, agile handling, and the nostalgia it evokes. If youre looking for a bike that offers a raw, exhilarating riding experience, the RX 135 4-Speed is definitely worth considering.

Yamaha has no plans to relaunch the RX 135 in India with a BS6-compliant 4-stroke engine. Despite rumors, the company has confirmed that there will be no updated version of this iconic bike. This news will likely disappoint many fans who were hoping for a revival. I believe this decision is a loss for the biking community, as the RX 135 holds a special place in many hearts.

A Yamaha RX 135 4-Speed owner recently spent Rs 43,000 to restore their beloved bike after an accident. The restoration included engine repair, new headlights, a side stand, and various other components. The bike now looks and runs like new, bringing back fond memories for the owner. I think the dedication to restoring this classic is a testament to its enduring appeal.

The RX 135 4-Speed had a distinctive 7-port torque induction system and a wet multi-disc clutch. It featured a telescopic fork suspension and 130mm drum brakes for both the front and rear wheels. The bikes fuel tank capacity was 10.5 liters, and it had a mileage of approximately 25-35 kmpl. I believe these specs made it a reliable commuter bike.

When the Yamaha RX 135 was in production, it was priced at around Rs 36,000 in India. The bike was available in colors such as Black Gold, Candy Maroon, and Riviera Green. Its discontinuation in 2007 was due to stricter emission norms. I think the price was quite competitive for its time.

The mileage of the Yamaha RX 135 4-Speed is a critical factor to consider. On average, you can expect a mileage of about 25-35 kmpl, which is relatively low compared to modern bikes. Its light 106 kg of weight provided the bike with the best in class power to weight ratio. It came with an option between 4-speed and 5-speed gearbox and claimed a top speed of 110 kmph. It used 130 mm drum brake for both front and rear wheel. When Yamaha RX135 was being sold, there were very few options in the biking industry, limiting the competition to just Suzuki Shogun and other RX series bikes.

Yamaha RX135 is classic Indian legend that performed outstandingly during its time of sale. It is lightweight and has a low ride height, which makes it quite comfortable to drive. This commuter bike was quite popular despite its low mileage. The RX135 was powered by a 132cc single cylinder 2-stroke engine that churns out a maximum power of 12 hp and a peak torque of 10 Nm. The lightweight of the bike, at 106 kg, was a big factor in its performance. The power-to-weight ratio of the bike was the best in its class. There was an option to choose the bike with either a four-speed transmission or a five-speed transmission. The combined mileage of the bike was between 25 kmpl and 35 kmpl and the top speed was 110 kmph.

At its time, there were only a few options available in the Indian markets for this price range, and its only competitor was the Suzuki Shogun. But in terms of performance, the RX135 outshone the Suzuki completely. Many features that we see today on the most basic bikes were missing from the RX135 but still, it was a legend and still continues to be one of the bikes that people want. There are no ABS or Disc brakes on the bike and the front and the rear feature drum brakes. There are telescopic forks on the front and a swing arm at the rear which handle the suspension duties. The RX135 was available in three different shades, Black Gold, Candy Maroon, Riviera Green.

Photo provided is not accurate .The price 36000 Is not a rate for the model shown in picture .The model shown is among the last series of rx 135 @ 2005 or the round instrument cluster but the cat silencer comparatively smaller one compared to the previous edition is missing in photo .In 2002 itself when I bought my rx 135 it was 50000 on road .say 48000 ex showroom. Climbing ability 10 degree mentioned also seems funny for those who owned rx 135

The bike has a cult following even today, but it got discontinued long ago due to emission norms imposed by Indian Government.
