Yamaha FZS V3 Vintage Edition: Personal Viewpoint with Blunt Realizations
In terms of styling that links the bike to its nostalgic roots as well as its contemporary features that make the motorcycle a perfect tool for use on the road today, then there is no better example than the Yamaha FZS V3 Vintage Edition. That is not some bike with a name just attached to give it a prestigious sounding label. There are moments where Yamaha just decided to give us this retro, almost vintage, feel that we hadn’t gotten before, without removing all of the tech and the sturdiness that makes modern motorcycles special. I’ve got some experience working with it, and I can tell you, there is much to discuss. Okay, so let me tell you what is special about this bike – and, of course, a few things I observed that are just plain weird.
That is why the Vintage Edition is different – and preferable – from the usual ones.
The first thing that gave me the impression was? Yeah, that old school look green paint job matching the brown leather textured looking seats. It really was a sight to behold, not that I am exaggerating because it could as well pass as a location in some old black and white movie. Of course, the bike isn’t stuck in the past; it has pedals and a shockingly high price tag of $3,295. Hidden under all the retro looks is Yamaha’s fine engineering and it shows in every ride. Said was said if I were to gather all this into one, then this is like a throwback of sorts but in all the non compromising sense of the term.
Key Specs (A Quick Glance)
Feature: Details
Engine:149cc, fuel-injected
Power: 12.4 PS at 7,250 RPM
Torque: 13.3 Nm at 5,500 RPM
Weight:137 kg
Mileage: Around 45-50 km/l (claimed)
Price: Rs.1.25 lakh (ex-showroom)
If you are hoping for something that shouts performance this may not be it. But if you are about efficiency, tight, snag-free and eye-popping rides, you’d be impressed with what it brings to the table. For me it is perfect balance of being plain and revealing at the same time.
Today I will be sharing what I love about riding the FZS V3 Vintage Edition.
If there is one thing I would like to discuss for sure, that is experiencing riding. The first time we met I can’t lie I based my judgment on appearance. That it is such an utter turn on is vintage styling. However after working for some hours I saw that it was not only a customisation issue. Here’s what stood out to me:
Smooth and Predictable Power
The motorist has no heart and soul to wow with the 149cc engine, but it works in a most beguiling way. It is slippery, very predictable but as perfect for maneuvering through city traffic or even long distance weekend drives on the highways. In a way it is like having a good friend whose ever willing to go but does not complain about what is happening.
Comfort That Speaks Volumes
This bike riding posture? Absolute bliss. I had a comfortable handle bar as wide as the road and sat erect without the need of a chiropractor for the next couple of hours. Longer rides felt even more easily manageable, which is quite uncommon in this segment in my experience.
Timeless Ornaments on a Modern Concept
That’s where Yamaha shines in my opinion. You get all the nostalgia of the 70s and 90s films, but do not think you are lacking in current day trinkets. The headlight is bright enough to ride through the night, and the Bluetooth on the digital console is something most riders don’t need, but I need. And when you pay Rs. 3,52,000 plus another Rs. 29,529 as ABS wiring, then install single-channel ABS into this motorbike, then you have a bike that appears vintage but performs in the modern age.
Who Is This Bike For?
Here’s how I see it. This bike is best suited to a person who is paramount about character and flavour rather than power. Perhaps you are a person who has always dreamed of an inter stock period of the old and the new construction. Or perhaps it is as simple as getting a bike that will make people ask, ‘what on earth are you riding?’ It will be ideal for the urban cyclist such as myself who requires a practical urban bicycle for daily use, in addition to having that show-piece bicycle for use on the weekends.
My Takeaway: Vintage Feels, Modern Soul
I found the Yamaha FZS V3 Vintage Edition to be as comfortable as your favourite leather jacket. It is fashion most, comfortable and one cannot help but feel good just being in it all the time. Well yes it may not be the fastest bike on the market but that is not what the company set out to provide. What is provided, nonetheless, is a comfortable and solid gliding experience, as pleasant when stuck in between stoplights as when moving through an empty expanse of asphalt. If you ask me whether I would recommend it, my response is an absolute yes, but it personally reminds me the long path to getting a degree. But if speed and performance are what you’re looking for, there are a whole host of bikes out there. However, if like me you prefer cruising and revealing in the heritage, this bike was made just for you.
