Expert opinion and recommendation

The UM Xtreet 250X is a motorcycle that has garnered significant attention, primarily due to its striking resemblance to the KTM Duke 200. While it is often criticized for its copycat design, the Xtreet 250X offers a compelling package at a significantly lower price point. With a 223 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 16 bhp and 19.6 Nm of torque, it provides decent performance for its segment. However, the build quality and overall finish may not match the standards set by its more premium counterparts. For buyers on a budget looking for a stylish and relatively powerful naked motorcycle, the UM Xtreet 250X could be a viable option, but its crucial to weigh the pros and cons, especially considering the brands reputation and after-sales service.

Recent news and announcements

The UM Xtreet 250X has been criticized for its blatant design similarities to the older generation KTM Duke models. From the tank design to the split seat and even the orange-painted frame, the similarities are hard to ignore. This move has raised questions about UMs originality and design ethics. I think this could harm their reputation in the Indian market.

UM Motorcycles unveiled the Xtreet 250X on their international website, replacing the Xtreet 230 R. The new model claims to be 35% faster and 15% more fuel-efficient than its predecessor. However, the lack of original design has overshadowed these performance claims.

Despite the controversy, the UM Xtreet 250X comes with some notable features such as front and rear disc brakes, upside-down forks, and a contrast-painted orange frame. The bike is available in black, white, and a neon green variant. These features might appeal to some buyers looking for a sporty ride.

UM Motorcycles has been trying to establish itself as a non-Chinese brand, emphasizing its USA Originated tag since its registration in the early 2000s. However, the Xtreet 250Xs design copying has undermined this effort and raised skepticism among potential buyers.
April 10, 2018
The Xtreet 250X was first showcased in India at the 2014 Auto Expo, but it was the R version, which had a different design. The new models design shift has sparked debate among motorcycle enthusiasts about UMs design strategy. I believe this could impact their sales in the competitive Indian market.

Price

Pricing details and changes

The UM Xtreet 250X is priced at 120,000.00 ex-showroom in India. When considering the on-road price, which includes additional costs such as registration, insurance, and other local taxes, the figure can rise to around 150,000 to 160,000, depending on the state and local regulations. This pricing makes the Xtreet 250X an attractive option for those seeking a 200-250cc motorcycle without the hefty price tag associated with more established brands. However, its important to factor in the long-term costs, including maintenance and spares, which might not be as economical as those of more popular brands.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The mileage of the UM Xtreet 250X is a critical factor for potential buyers, especially in India where fuel efficiency is a key consideration. While exact mileage figures can vary based on riding conditions and style, the Xtreet 250X is expected to deliver around 30-35 kmpl in city riding and up to 40 kmpl on highways. These numbers are reasonable for a motorcycle in its class, but they may not be as impressive as some of the more fuel-efficient options available in the market. For daily commuters, the fuel efficiency is adequate, but for those who prioritize maximum mileage, other models might offer better value. ABOUT The UM Xtreet 250X is a naked motorcycle that has drawn comparisons to the KTM Duke 200 due to its similar design. Powered by a 223 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, it produces 16 bhp at 6600 rpm and 19.6 Nm of peak torque at 5100 rpm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox, providing a smooth and responsive ride. The motorcycle features a stylish and aggressive design, which is one of its major selling points. However, the build quality and overall finish have been questioned by many, and the brands after-sales service network is not as extensive as that of more established competitors. Despite these drawbacks, the UM Xtreet 250X offers a compelling blend of style, performance, and affordability, making it a consideration for buyers in the 200-250cc segment.

Professional reviews and expert opinions on UM Xtreet 250X

UM Xtreet 250X is an upcoming street fighter that looks highly inspired from KTM Duke series of motorcycles. It feels more like a Red version of KTM’s Orange league as UM used Red frame, alloy wheels and sticker options on this motorcycle. The X moniker is seen in a bright Red shade over the fuel tank. The first sight of Xtreet 250X reveals an exactly same frame as KTM 200 Duke, further carrying similarities in terms of fuel tank design, seating layout and even the under seat panels. It looks like they are a thinner version of visible components and further adding practical additions like rear grab rail and side mounted exhaust for better ground clearance.

The engine powering Xtreet 250X is 223cc in displacement and brings an air cooled setup for cost-cutting. The carburetor fed setup is also in use in Duty 230 in a different tune, resulting in more chances of Xtreet 250X arrival in coming months. The engine is good for 16.4 HP at 6600 rpm and 19.6 Nm at 5100 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The expected price tag of INR 1.2 lakh also makes the fact clear that UM will place this as Yamaha FZ25 rival. Still, the values are much lower in comparison and may not affect FZ25 at all. Xtreet 250X comes with USD front forks and that surely means more premium feel in front of others.

Xtreet 250X measures 2080 mm in length, 750 mm in width and 1120 mm in height. The seat height is a bit high at 820 mm while wheelbase stands healthy at 1370 mm. Front and rear wheel offer disc brakes for a safer ride while 110mm front and 140mm rear tyre guarantee optimum grip levels. All digital instrument console on Xtreet 250X will be easy to read and practical for everyday use.
