KTM Sport Motorcycle AG is an Austrian company which has launched the upgraded model of KTM 1190 Adventure in the international market. It is considered as one of the safest motorcycles in the world and is already on sales in the European countries. The KTM 1190 Adventure R is expected to be available in India by the end of 2015. Let's take a look at this travel bike.

Design and Style

The KTM 1190 Adventure R is designed by using the powder-coated tube frame that is made of chrome molybdenum steel tubing and gives it a perfect sleek look. The bike offers a super sporty and comfortable riding position with its 3D foam padding seat. The perfectly placed fuel tank along with 23-litres capacity provides the rider with an absolute knee contact and support. Also there is the stylish and bright headlamp in its sporty cowl, impressive LED tail light with turn indicators, racing type footrests, a short license plate holder, front crash-pad to protect the fork from damage and rear crash-pad to protect the swing arm, mirrors with integrated blinkers, new aluminum-forged triple clamps and chromed alloy wheels. All of these impart muscular and aggressive looks to the bike.

Instrument Console

KTM 1190 Adventure R has a central LCD panel for displaying all riding conditions, speedometer and rev counter with adjustable gearshift light. The bike features an another LCD on the left that displays the adjustable features like favourites page, MSC ride modes and riding conditions page for additional information which includes outside/oil temperature, various trips, on-board voltage, average speed, range, distance to next service, average and current fuel consumption. The rider can select different modes for the various assistance systems using a mode switch which is given on the left side of the handlebar.

Engine and Gearbox

The KTM 1190 Adventure has an advanced V2 engine with 1195cc displacement that generates a maximum power of 148 bhp. This extremely light, high-performance, two-cylinder, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, four-valve engine is mated to a six speed transmission which gives it an amazing power. The new slipper and anti-hopping clutch of KTM 1190 Adventure reduces the force required for shifting gear.

Brakes and Suspension

KTM 1190 Adventure comes equipped with a Bosch 9ME combined ABS braking system which comprises of 2xBrembo four piston with radially bolted caliper brakes at the front and Brembo two piston with fixed caliper at the back. The suspension duties are handled by WP upside down suspension at the front while WP mono-shock suspension are placed at the rear end. It has a 220 mm front as well as rear wheel travel.

Tyre Size

KTM 1190 Adventure is the first travel bike to roll on state of the art with its extremely durable and grippy tyres. The front tyre sized at 120/70 ZR 19 and the rear one at 170/60 ZR 17.

Ride and Handling

The KTM 1190 Adventure offers a new MTC (Motorcycle Traction Control) that guarantees sporty yet controllable propulsion on all surfaces. The high ground clearance of 220 mm makes the bike perfect for off roading. The extended wheelbase of 1560 ± 15 mm makes it suitable for uneven roads.
