Honda Fury VT1300CX

Fury is a bike from Honda which targets the fans of chopper bikes. It’s not a regular cruiser bike and aims to develop a completely new segment for itself in India. Will it be able to do so? Let’s find out.

Design and Style

When simplicity meets innovative design, you get a Honda Fury. Honda has kept it quite simple yet this bike looks like a gem. This bike is certainly one of its kinds in India. Fury has chrome finished inclined telescopic forks which connect to its multi-spoke silver finished alloy wheel at its front. This bike has been heavily chromed as its headlight surrounding, rear view mirrors, instrument console and hand levers get chrome finishing around them. Fury has a small circular headlight which forms the naked face of this bike as it has no visor and cowl. The front fender of this bike is very simple and covers most of the part of its front wheel.

Move to the side of this bike and you will notice two pipes of its body frame which carries its chromed V-twin engine. The bike looks very bulky due to the mega size of its engine. Just above this engine, Fury features an elongated fuel tank which merges down with the rider seat. This seat has been positioned very low with front set foot pegs. The twin fatty silencers of this bike add maturity to it. These elongated pipes are chrome finished and improves the side stance of this bike. Its rear angular cowl is similar to other cruiser bikes and comes with a spilt-seat for the pillion rider. The rear cowl also houses a stylish LED tail light which is supported by orange colored side indicators which makes this bike look like an attention seeker with a very broad rear tyre.

Instrument Console

Honda has incorporated this bike with a combined analogue digital instrument console. There is no tachometer in this bike but it features an easily readable analogue speedometer. It has a LCD for its digital fuel gauge, odometer and trip meter. The bike comes with all essential indicators in its console.

Engine and Gearbox

Honda Fury is powered by a V-twin, liquid cooled 1312cc engine. This SOHC engine pumps out a power output of 57 bhp at 4250 rpm. The two cylinders of this engine deliver a torque output of 107 nm which is available as soon as 2250 rpm. This engine is offered with a five speed manual gearbox with one gear down and four gears up-shift pattern.

Acceleration and Performance

Honda Fury is not a sports bike so don’t expect it to be a speed enthusiast. Its performance is very identical to other cruiser bikes which find it happy to cruise around 130-150km/hr. The bike has tall gear ratios which needs less effort while making transitions. This five speed gearbox is well tuned and refined but we doubt the refinement level of its engine. It’s a SOHC engine which shows certain signs of vibrations when pushed hard. The sound of this engine is not that refined either. The bike does 0-100km/hr in less than 10 seconds and feels relaxed at low rpms. Fury has a poor power to weight ratio but to compensate, Honda has stuffed this bike high amount of torque. The bike can easily crawl at slow speeds in big gears. This also improves its throttle reaction which is quite evident in city traffic. Its massive amount of torque can be achieved at 2250 rpm which gives it a good low speed grunt. The refinement and performance of this engine could have been much better though.

Honda Fury may return you an overall fuel efficiency of around 13-15km/ltr.

Comfort While Driving

Honda Fury is a very comfortable bike with low seating posture. Your feet will automatically feel relaxed as they get placed on its front set foot pegs. The handlebar of this bike comes to you which mean you have to put no effort to get a command over this bike. Road visibility is quite clear and you will enjoy the supreme quality of comfort while you sit on its well-padded seat.

Storage Space and Safety Features

There is no in-built storage space in Honda Fury although it has significant safety features like twin piston calliper at its front and single piston calliper at the back. Apart from this, Fury has a powerful headlight which gives you clear vision of roads at night which is very much needed when you drive a bike of this size.

Suspension and Brakes

Honda Fury has 45mm front telescopic forks and adjustable mono shocker at the back. The braking system of this bike consists of 336mm single disc brake at its front while it has a rear disc brake of 296mm. Honda offers this bike with ABS which helps you to stop this bike precisely.

Ride and Handling

Honda Fury is super comfortable on highways with quite impressive handling. Its extended wheelbase of 1805mm brings stability to this hefty machine which weighs around 303kg. Its wheelbase also improves its slow speed stability and helps it to turn around corners easily. The bike has a very commendable suspension and braking system which not only makes your ride comfortable but also enhances your safety. Its low ground clearance of 126mm improves the aerodynamics of this bike and helps it to get momentum easily on highways. Its handling in city is a matter of concern though as it has limited steering movement which needs proper space to move.

Tyre Size, Shades and Variants

The bike has R21 size of front tyre and R18 size of rear tyre. Its only variant is available in two colors.

Verdict

Honda has launched this bike with a price tag of INR 14 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi (approx., may vary)). Fury is not every body’s cup of tea; it’s only for those who are ready to pay this hefty amount just for exclusivity and social reputation.
