Recent news and announcements

The 2025 BMW S 1000 R has undergone a significant aesthetic update, ditching its characteristic single headlight for a new dual headlight assembly that gives the bike a more aggressive and purposeful look. This design change aligns the S 1000 R more closely with its sportier siblings, the S 1000 RR and M 1000 R. The new nose fairing also includes a small air intake between the lights, potentially integrating into the frame’s intake system. I believe this new design will make the S 1000 R stand out more in the premium naked bike segment.
October 17, 2024
BMW Motorrad has updated the S 1000 R for 2025 with several technical enhancements, including a more powerful inline-four engine that now produces 168 horsepower, a 5 horsepower increase over the previous model. The bike also features a shorter final drive ratio, which enhances sprint performance, and the standard Shift Assistant Pro has been optimized for smoother gear changes. Additionally, the traction control DTC has been revised to match the improvements seen in the M 1000 RR. I think these updates will make the S 1000 R even more appealing to riders looking for a dynamic and powerful naked bike.
October 14, 2024
The 2025 BMW S 1000 R will comply with Euro 5+ emission standards and includes several mechanical updates such as a new cylinder head with a revised port design and combustion chamber shape, full-shaft titanium valves, and a new engine mount. The bike also features a titanium exhaust system with modified components and a new M short-stroke throttle with a reduced rotation angle. These changes should improve both performance and efficiency. I believe these updates will help the S 1000 R remain competitive in the market.
October 11, 2024
BMW Motorrad has enhanced the standard features of the S 1000 R, including the addition of a dual-flow LED headlight, engine drag torque control (MSR) with configurable ‘Engine Brake’, and a USB-C port under the seat. The bike is available in three color schemes, including the base variant in Blackstorm metallic, the Sport model in Bluefire/Mugiallo Yellow, and the M package in Lightwhite uni/M Motorsport. I think these additional features will add to the bikes appeal and usability.
October 11, 2024
The 2025 BMW S 1000 R retains its solid foundation with unchanged frame, suspension, and brakes, but it now boasts a more aggressive aesthetic, aligning it visually with the S 1000 RR and M 1000 R. The new design includes a more compact nose fairing and a steering damper that is now more visible. This visual update is expected to make the bike more appealing to enthusiasts. I believe this new look will help the S 1000 R stay competitive in the premium naked sports bike market.

Ex Showroom Price vs On Road Price
Ex-Showroom Price is the Manufacturing Cost of the vehicle + Dealer/Seller Profit + GST (Goods and Service Tax) + Transportation Charges (from the manufacturing plant to the dealership). On the other hand, the On-Road Price is the actual cost you pay to the dealership to make the vehicle legal to run on the roads. It includes Ex-Showroom Price in your city + RTO Charges (Vehicle Registration) + One Time Road Tax + Insurance Charges. The On-Road Price also includes some optional things like if you opt for Genuine Accessories and Extended Warranty while buying a vehicle. Please note that the On-Road Price varies a lot across different states in India due to different percentage for the State Registration Charges.

Overview

BMW has introduced new versions of its flagship motorcycles in India, including the S1000R naked litre-class sports bike. The S1000R receives significant cosmetic and mechanical upgrades for its 2021 variant. With the most recent update, the litre-class motorcycle abandons its iconic staggered headlight design, which was inspired by its fully-faired sibling, the S1000RR.

BMW S1000R Design and Style

The latest BMW S1000R received a complete redesign. The styling changes include an updated front fascia with an all-new LED headlight rather than the asymmetric styling theme seen in its predecessor. The new headlight design is similar to that of the 2021 BMW G310R and F900R. The fuel tank side panels, tank centre cover, R-shaped side panels, radiator shrouds, and belly pan are also sharper on the 2024 model. The naked roadster's rear end is inspired by the S1000RR.

BMW S1000R Engine and Gearbox

The naked litre-class borrows the drive drain from its full-faired sibling. The motorcycle's 999cc Oil/water-cooled four-cylinder four-stroke in-line engine with four valves per cylinder is BS6 emissions compliant for the 2021 edition. The litre engine produces 121 kW (165 HP) of power at 11,000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque at 9,250 rpm. According to the Bavarian automaker, the bike's more linear torque curve and taller final gear ratios make it more usable at lower RPMs. A Multi-disc oil bath (anti-hopping) with self-reinforcement and a Synchromesh six-speed gearbox built into the engine housing support the engine.

BMW S1000R Suspension, Brakes and Tyres

The latest BMW S1000R features an all-new Bridge-type aluminium laminate frame with load-bearing engine support. This was done by the Bavarian automaker to improve handling. On the front, the bike has an upside-down telescopic fork with a diameter of 45 mm, spring preload, and adjustable rebound and compression damping, while the rear has an Aluminium under beam swinging arm, Full-Floater Pro, central shock absorber, adjustable rebound and compression damping, and adjustable spring preload. The litre-class naked can be equipped with semi-active electronic suspension as an option. The bike is stopped by a Twin-disc brake with a diameter of 320mm, a four-piston fixed calliper up front and a Single disc brake with a diameter of 220mm, one-piston floating calliper at the rear, both of which are assisted by BMW Motorrad Integral ABS, partial integral. 2024 BMW S1000R rides on 17-inch wheels with 120/70 front and 190/55 rear tyres (for the cast aluminium wheels) and 200/55 rear tyres (for the steel wheels) (for the carbon wheels).

Instrument Console of BMW S1000R

When compared to its predecessor, the cockpit receives an upgrade in the form of a Bluetooth-enabled 6.5-inch TFT display. The digital speedometer, odometer, trip metre, tachometer, fuel gauge, and clock are all displayed in the instrument cluster. Other useful features on the console include an ABS light, RPM/Gear display, Gear Indicator, Service Reminder, and Low Oil Indicator.

Key Features of BMW S1000R

2024 S1000R also includes full-LED lighting as standard, a Bluetooth-enabled 6.5-inch TFT display, electronic aids including three modes (Rain, Road, and Dynamic), an anti-hopping clutch, traction control system, ABS Pro, and Hill Start Control as standard. On the Pro and Pro M Sport models, additional features such as Riding Modes Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), engine drag torque control MSR, engine brake control, and Power Wheelie control are available.

The premium variants also have keyless entry, a USB charger, heated grips, cruise control, gear-shift assist, adaptive lights, and daytime running lights. M endurance chain, M GPS lap trigger, sports silencer, M sport seat, lightweight battery, and carbon wheels are also included in the Pro M Sport version.

Top Speed and Mileage of BMW S1000R

2024 BMW S1000R has a top speed of more than 200 km/h and a WMTC fuel consumption per 100 km of 6.2 l, resulting in mileage of 16.12 km/l. In terms of performance, the new BMW S1000R can reach 100 km/h in 3.32 seconds.

BMW S1000R Colour Options

BMW offers the new S1000R in three dynamic colour options: Light white/M Motorsport (Light Blue, Dark Blue, Red), Racing Red and Style Sport: Hockenheim Silver Metallic.

BMW S1000R Price

2024 BMW S1000R is available in three variants namely, Standard, Pro, and Pro M Sport in the Indian market. The current starting price for the new BMW S1000R is ?18,30,000 (ex-showroom) for the Standard variant. And it goes up to ?22,50,000 for the Pro M Sport variant.

BMW S1000R Competitors

The BS6-compliant BMW S1000R naked roadster has been launched in the Indian market to rival the likes of BMW R1250GS Adventure, BMW R NineT Scrambler, BMW S1000XR, BMW R18, BMW R1250GS, Ducati Streetfighter V4, Ducati Diavel 1260, Harley-Davidson Fat Boy, Kawasaki Z650 RS and Kawasaki ZH2.

Conclusion

The all-new BMW S1000R ticks a lot of boxes for 95 per cent of the naked superbike market, we can't think of another bike in this category that compares in terms of versatility and usability. The exposed trellis subframe and high-end finish of the M package win our approval. And it performs as well as it looks, and it is equally at home cutting up city streets and touring as it is on the racetrack.

It may not have the headline-grabbing performance figures of the competition, but it's a significant improvement over the old bike, which was already a good bike, and it's an exciting, enjoyable road and track bike that's easy to ride with usable rider aids and electronics. This is a fiercely competitive category, but for those who aren't swayed by lap times and horsepower, the BMW is an appealing and ‘sensible' option.
