Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is a commendable addition to the mid-capacity segment in India, offering a compelling blend of performance, style, and affordability. From my experience, this bike stands out for its agile and fun handling, making it a joy to ride on both twisty roads and highways. The engine, though not the most refined, delivers ample power and torque, making it more than sufficient for most riding scenarios. The bikes design, characteristic of a true streetfighter, is aggressive and appealing, although it may not break new ground in terms of innovation. The feature list is impressive, with ride-by-wire technology, multiple riding modes, and dual-channel ABS, which enhance both safety and riding pleasure. However, there are some compromises, such as the front brakes performance at high speeds and the slight vibrations at higher revs. Overall, the Pulsar NS400Z is an excellent choice for those looking to upgrade from smaller bikes, offering great value for money.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

The upcoming Pulsar NS400 is expected to have a design that blends elements from the N250 and NS200, including an N250-like headlamp with thunder-style DRLs. It will also feature an LED projector headlamp, a fully digital cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and call/SMS notifications. Additionally, it will include a USB charging port and dual-channel ABS. I believe these features will make it a compelling option in its segment.

Bajaj Auto has confirmed the launch of the Pulsar NS400, which is essentially the vehicle previously speculated as the Pulsar VS400, on May 3, 2024. This motorcycle will be powered by a 373cc, liquid-cooled engine sourced from the Dominar 400, producing 39.42bhp and 35Nm of torque. It will feature a six-speed gearbox, golden-coloured USD forks, and a gas-charged monoshock. I think this engine choice will help keep costs in check while offering robust performance.

Bajaj has released teasers and the motorcycle has been spotted at a dealership yard, hinting at its imminent launch. The Pulsar NS400 will run on 17-inch wheels and have disc brakes at both ends. The braking system will include dual-channel ABS with three modes: Rain, Road, and On/Off. This versatility in braking modes should enhance safety and riding experience.

The Pulsar NS400 is anticipated to be priced under Rs. 2 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it below the Dominar 400 in Bajajs lineup. This pricing strategy could make it an attractive choice for buyers looking for a powerful yet affordable motorcycle. I think this pricing will be a key factor in its market success.

The Kratos VS400, as it was called back then, was expected to feature a full-LED headlamp, a split, fully digital instrument cluster, and a monoshock at the rear. It was also supposed to have ABS, though it was speculated to be an optional feature. These features were ahead of its time and will now be seen in the Pulsar NS400. I think the delay allowed Bajaj to refine and improve the design.

Price

Pricing details and changes

The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is priced very competitively in the Indian market, starting at Rs 1.85 lakh ex-showroom. When you factor in the on-road costs, including registration, insurance, and other charges, the price can go up to around Rs 2.20-2.30 lakh, depending on the state and local taxes. This pricing is significantly lower than many 350cc and 250cc bikes available in the market, making it an attractive option for buyers seeking a powerful yet affordable motorcycle. The price-to-power ratio is particularly impressive, with the bike offering 40 horsepower at a cost that is notably lower than its competitors. This makes the Pulsar NS400Z a great value-for-money proposition for Indian buyers.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

When it comes to mileage, the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is expected to deliver around 25-30 kmpl in mixed riding conditions, which is reasonable given its 373cc engine and performance-oriented nature. While this may not be the best in terms of fuel efficiency, the bikes overall performance and features make it a worthwhile trade-off for many riders. For those concerned about running costs, the mileage is still manageable, especially considering the bikes powerful engine and the thrill it offers.

About

General information and overview

The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is the biggest Pulsar ever made, and it packs a punch with its 373.3 cc liquid-cooled DOHC engine, producing 40 horsepower and 35 Nm of torque. This engine, shared with the Dominar 400, has been tweaked to suit the streetfighter character of the NS400Z. The bike features a perimeter frame, 43mm USD forks, and a preload adjustable monoshock, which together provide a nimble and stable ride. It comes with multiple riding modes Street, Sport, Rain, and Off-Road along with ride-by-wire technology and dual-channel ABS. The fully digital instrument panel includes Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and all-LED lighting. The design is aggressive and muscular, typical of the NS lineup, making it a stylish addition to any riders garage. Overall, the Pulsar NS400Z is a well-rounded package that combines performance, features, and affordability, making it an excellent choice for riders looking to upgrade to a more powerful and thrilling motorcycle.
