Expert Verdict
Professional reviews and expert opinions on Yamaha MT-25
Yamaha seems to challenge all the competitors with its every segment offering ready to rock the charts. Heard about MT-25? - The all-new street fighter with a bloodline common to the track hunters. Yes, it’s true. Yamaha is planning for a big boom with its 250cc offering, the R25's racing feel with a muscular appeal. The company officially launched the MT-25 in Indonesia on June 6, 2015 and it is expected to be launched in India by end 2015 or early 2016.
The bike comes up with the same rear portion as that of the R25.
The sharp edgy ending suits the personality and the front may remind you of the first generation of FZ. The forks at the front look clear and chromed with a sharp yet muscular tank on the top. The blue skeleton is visible and matches beautifully to the blue rings on the wheels. Many of us believe that racing does not require a fully faired motorcycle always, and the correct example of their type or racer comes with the entry of MT25 to the scene. The fiery dual tone colors make the cuts and curves more aggressive than before. The front half of the bike seems heavy as the same beast comes hidden under the faired body design of R25. The arrangement looks neat and beautiful.
The length of Yamaha MT-25 is 2090mm, width is 745mm, height is 1035mm and the weight of the bike stands at 165 kg. The ground clearance is 160mm, seat height is 780mm and the fuel tank capacity is 14 litres. The engine remains the same as that on the R25. The 249cc, twin cylinder motor is a true performer with 35.5 BHP of maximum power output @ 12000 rpm. The 22.6 NM of torque is generated at 10,000 rpm. The engine remains liquid cooled and fuel injected, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The ride is smooth and much powerful than most of the category rivals, making them feel a step behind from this excellent piece of Yamaha's engineering.
Yamaha MT-25 comes equipped with a digital-analog instrument console which includes an analog tachometer and a digital speedometer, digital odometer, digital trip meter and digital fuel gauge. Low quantity warning for fuel, battery and oil pressure is given in the instrument console of MT-25. The braking of the MT-25 is handled by a floating disc of 298 mm at the front whereas the rear has a 220 mm single disc for the duty. The front gets telescopic forks of 41mm and the rear gets a mono-cross suspension. The performance remains the same its track buddy and the no fairing opportunity makes it few kg lighter than the R25. The tires remain 110/70-17 for the front and 140/70-17 for the rear.
