Suzuki India has launched the smaller variant of its famous cruiser bike, Intruder; this new variant is known as Intruder M800. Let’s try to know what to expect from this baby Intruder.
Suzuki Intruder M800 Design and Style
Suzuki Intruder M800 is not completely new as it borrows most of the styling bits from its elder sibling. Suzuki has kept the basic design and style of this bike similar to the bigger Intruder. M800 is also heavily chromed and looks like a full size cruiser bike. If you look it closely then you can notice the visual differences. Its sharp front fender is extended downwards along with its front forks. The headlight and orange colored indicators are carried over from its elder sibling. Suzuki has redesigned the front cowl which lacks a visor and sports a naked chrome finished instrument console. Other stuff like its chrome finished rear view mirrors and hand levers add premium touch to this bike. Move to the side of this bike and you will notice heavy usage of chrome which includes two exhaust pipes and engine. Its characteristic long fuel tank complements the new seat assembly. The rear cowl has no grab rail or back support for the rear passenger. It features a small but fatty rear tyre which gives it a macho look with multi-layered LED tail lamp. It has an unnoticeable rear fender which carries the rear indicators and number plate.
Suzuki Intruder M800 Instrument Console
Suzuki Intruder M800 has a completely new instrument console. It has a combined analogue digital instrument console which is placed on the regular position. It has an analogue speedometer while it feature an orange colored LCD for its digital fuel gauge, odometer and trip-meter. All essential LED indicators are placed on its fuel tank though it lacks a much needed tachometer.
Suzuki Intruder M800 Engine and Gearbox
Suzuki Intruder M800 is powered by a small 4-stroke, 2-cylinder 805cc engine. It’s also a V-twin engine which churns out a power output of 50 bhp at 6500 rpm. Similar to elder sibling, this bike is also equipped with a five speed manual gearbox which has one gear down and four gears up-shift pattern. The maximum torque production of this liquid-cooled, SOHC engine is of 65 Nm which can be used at 5000 rpm.
Suzuki Intruder M800 Acceleration and Performance
Suzuki Intruder M800 is nowhere close to its elder sibling in terms of acceleration and performance. This bike weighs around 269kg which contributes to its poor power to weight ratio. Moreover, the torque production is not that satisfactory either. You have to smartly use its five speed gearbox to get the best out of this bike. Looking at its less torque amount, Suzuki has kept its gear ratios short to avoid turbo lag. They have strengthened its low and mid-range but the bike breathes hard at high rpms. It does 0-100km/hr in less than 9 seconds and can cruise easily above 100km/hr. If you try to push it hard, the bike can probably cross the speed mark of 130km/hr. This engine lacks the much needed high speed grunt but to compensate, Suzuki offers smooth gearbox with well-matched gear ratios. This SOHC engine shows the signs of vibration and harshness when you rev it extremely hard however you will be glad to hear the thumping sound which makes other notice that you are riding a cruiser bike.
Suzuki Intruder M800 Mileage
The heavy weight of Suzuki Intruder M800 also affects its fuel efficiency. It may return you a mileage of around 12-14km/ltr in city conditions while these figures increase by at least 5km/ltr on highways.
Comfort while Driving
Suzuki Intruder M800 is a bit shorter than its big brother but still feels best in class. It’s a wide bike which offers low seating posture with legs stretched ahead. The front set foot -pegs help you to relax on this bike while its compact handle bar offers you a firm palm grip. The seat is stuffed with high quality of fabric and offers nice under-thigh support. The rider gets clear visibility of road and instrument cluster while driving.
Storage Space and Safety Features
Suzuki Intruder M800 offers no storage space but features a powerful headlight which confirms your safety while driving at night.
Suzuki Intruder M800 Suspension and Safety Features
The front telescopic forks of M800 are coil spring, oil damped while it has link type, 5-way adjustable spring preload suspension at the back. We are not satisfied the braking system of this bike. It lacks a rear disc brake and features drum brake at the back. The front brake has two radial mounted calliper and single disc brake of 300mm.
Ride and Handling
Suzuki Intruder M800 certainly feels lighter than its elder sibling and it’s easy to handle this bike in city traffic. The steer response is quite positive from this bike and that makes it a good highway cruiser. The slow speed stability of this bike is impressive and it needs less effort while turning. It has a wheelbase of 1665mm which makes it stable around corners and its wide tyres further enhance the road grip. It has a high ground clearance of 140mm which works effectively along with its suspension system on our Indian roads. This suspension system is quite capable to bear the heavy weight of this bike but its braking system finds it too heavy. Suzuki should have opted for a rear disc brake to improve its ride quality. You always lack the confidence while driving it at high speeds due to its poor braking system.
Suzuki Intruder M800 Tyre Size, Colours and Variants
The front and rear tyre sizes are 130/90R16 and 170/80R15 respectively. The bike is available in three colors.
Verdict
Suzuki Intruder M800 costs you around INR 9.5 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi (approx., may vary)). The biggest USP of this bike is its high visual resemblance with its much expensive elder sibling. Apart from this, we doubt if it has any quality which justifies its extremely high pricing. It has a less powerful engine and lacks many vital features including a rear disc brake. We don’t feel it’s a complete value for money bike but one may choose this bike for its exclusive cruiser looks and riding abilities.
