The KTM RC 390 is a motorcycle that has long been known for its sharp handling and impressive performance. With its recent updates, it has taken those qualities to another level. This article will explore various aspects of the bike, from its ride and handling to its engine performance, design, and technology. Whether you're a seasoned rider or a beginner, the RC 390 has something to offer, making it a standout choice in its category.

Key Takeaways

  • The KTM RC 390 offers improved handling, making it easier to ride at high speeds.
  • It features a powerful engine that delivers strong performance on both tracks and roads.
  • The bike's design is more aerodynamic, enhancing its visual appeal and performance.
  • Advanced technology, like traction control and a TFT display, adds to the riding experience.
  • While the bike has many strengths, it may not be comfortable for passengers and comes at a higher price.

Ride, Handling, and Brakes

Improved Handling Characteristics

The KTM RC 390 is known for its sharp handling, and the latest model continues this tradition. It feels more predictable and easier to ride hard. This bike is agile and friendly, making it suitable for both new and experienced riders.

Weight Distribution and Balance

Despite being slightly heavier than its predecessor, the RC 390 feels light and nimble. The weight distribution is well-balanced, allowing for quick turns and smooth transitions. Here’s a quick look at the weight details:

Model YearWeight (kg)
2014164
2022172

Braking Performance

The brakes on the new RC 390 have been redesigned for better performance. The front disc is now mounted directly to the wheel spokes, which enhances its look and function. While they may not be the most impressive brakes out there, they do provide a solid feel and good stopping power.

The RC 390’s handling and braking make it a fun bike to ride, whether on the track or the road.

In summary, the KTM RC 390 offers:

  • Improved handling for easier riding
  • Balanced weight distribution for agility
  • Reliable braking performance for safety

Overall, this motorcycle is designed to inspire confidence and enhance the riding experience.

Engine and Performance

Engine Specifications

The KTM RC 390 is powered by a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with a displacement of 373.2cc. It produces a maximum power of 43.5 hp at 9,000 rpm and a torque of 37 Nm at 7,000 rpm. This makes it one of the most powerful bikes in its class.

Power Delivery and Throttle Response

The engine offers a smooth and linear power delivery, making it easy to handle. The throttle response is quick, thanks to the ride-by-wire system. Riders will appreciate the lack of major flat spots or spikes in the powerband, which enhances the overall riding experience.

Performance on Track and Road

On the track, the RC 390 shows impressive acceleration, especially up to 100 kph. However, beyond that speed, the acceleration starts to taper off. Here’s a quick look at its performance metrics:

Speed (kph)Acceleration Time (seconds)
0 to 603.5
0 to 1007.5
0 to 12012.0

The RC 390 is designed for both track and road use, making it a versatile choice for riders.

In summary, the KTM RC 390 combines a powerful engine with advanced electronics, making it a standout in its category.

Design and Visual Appeal

Aerodynamic Enhancements

The new KTM RC 390 showcases a design that is not just about looks but also about functionality. Its aerodynamic shape helps reduce drag, making it more efficient at high speeds. The bike's body panels are crafted to minimize air resistance, allowing for better performance on the track and road.

Color Schemes and Paint Quality

KTM has introduced vibrant color options that stand out. The KTM Factory Racing Blue is particularly eye-catching, contrasting beautifully with the orange accents. Here are some key points about the color schemes:

  • Bright and bold colors enhance visibility.
  • Matte finishes give a modern touch.
  • Paint quality is generally high, though some areas may show minor imperfections.

Build Quality and Finish

The overall build quality of the RC 390 is impressive, with a sturdy feel. However, there are a few areas that could use improvement:

  • Some switchgear feels a bit cheap.
  • Panel gaps are not always perfectly aligned.
  • The bike feels solid and well-constructed overall.

The KTM RC 390 is designed to turn heads, but it also prioritizes performance and functionality, making it a well-rounded motorcycle.

Suspension and Comfort

Suspension Adjustability

The KTM RC 390 features a suspension system that has seen some improvements. The rear monoshock now offers rebound damping adjustment, which enhances the overall ride quality. However, the front fork remains non-adjustable, which may disappoint some riders. This means that while you can tweak the rear suspension to your liking, the front will stay as is.

Ride Quality on Different Terrains

Riding the RC 390 on various surfaces reveals that it handles well, thanks to its increased suspension travel. Here are some key points about its ride quality:

  • Comfortable on highways: The bike feels stable and smooth during long rides.
  • Good for track use: It maintains composure even during aggressive cornering.
  • Less harsh on bumps compared to previous models.

Comparison with Competitors

When compared to rivals like the TVS Apache RR 310, the RC 390's suspension may not be as adjustable, but it still offers a solid performance. Here’s a quick comparison:

  • Music playback control
  • Phone call alerts
  • Turn-by-turn navigation (available at an extra cost)

Lighting and Switchgear

The new RC 390 comes with full-LED lighting, which improves visibility at night. The LED headlight is expected to perform excellently, similar to the one on the RC 200. Additionally, the adjustable brake and clutch levers provide a customizable riding experience.

Price Point

With the new features, the price of the RC 390 has gone up significantly. It now costs around ?3.16 lakh (ex-showroom), making it more expensive than some rivals. This higher price might make it less appealing for budget-conscious buyers.

Minor Quality Issues

Some users have reported small quality issues with the bike. These can include:

Honda is the company to make wonderse but its bikes cost are at higher side when compare to others.Bajaz has given up scooter/scooties.Hero was downed due to diversion with honda eg face lift karizma .Now days taste of travel is changed. Now Most of people /commuters are choosing high cc bikes ,in the range150/225 ,for daily/weekly/tourse sice car travel is very cost for single one who may be an ooficer, business men,or tourer.

So the bikes of this range must be comfortable like old karizna R,unicorn,New SUZUKI gixer SXR. Karizma r is not available .New one is very bad handle.Unicorn, suzuki are 150cc range .Hunk and pulsers are available.Apache 180 handle also is not good and this bike gives vibrations at high speeds.

It is better to bring back old karizma r better to rise the handle pedle of pulser 220 f a little bit by 1 inch.

Only few % of boys go for sporty like down handle bar bikes. You make dual provision for handle barse depending on choice of buyer to get it be fixed at the show room.

We are adjusting to available bike in 200 cc range .Pulser 200 ok.But they are not considering the normal riders .
