Hyundai Elite i20 is one among top selling hatchbacks of India. They recently gave an update to this model by keeping most of the prices unchanged for now. Elite i20 Asta diesel is the top spec model that also has an optional available variant for a huge price difference. Hyundai brings dual airbags and ABS as standard on this car while many features were reshuffled after the launch of facelift version. i20 Asta diesel comes with some mouth watering features like 15 inch gunmetal finish alloy wheels and touch AVN with navigation and phone connectivity (MirrorLink, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay).

Hyundai offers this typical variant with rear parking sensors and camera. Unlike older models that had the display hidden behind rear view camera, 2018 Elite i20 comes with AVN based rear monitoring. Front fog lights help driver stay easy in uneven weather and low light conditions while headlights offer escort function for easy entry into dark places. Getting a smart key requires Asta (O) variant while Hyundai offers fold-able key for owner’s ease. Halogen headlight may feel like a drawback at such high price point. Body colored bumpers, outside door mirrors and door handles further complete the outer profile.

Elite i20 Asta diesel is powered by a 1.4L, four cylinder engine producing 90 HP at 4000 rpm and 220Nm at 1500-2750 rpm. The engine is offered with 6-speed manual gearbox. I was travelling with my family from Chandigarh to Delhi on 9th Nov 2014 in our Hyundai i20. We were around Sonepat, when a passer-by waved us indicating that t...here was smoke coming from the car. Fortunately, the car had just crossed an intersection and the speed was slow. We were really lucky that everyone got out of the vehicle safely, however, we were shocked to see our vehicle in flames just moments after.

After running from pillar to post for 16 days between Hans Hyundai, New Delhi & Hyundai Motor India Limited all we hear from them is that the car caught fire due to some external substance and that they cannot do anything about it. How very convenient is that, isn’t it? For heaven’s sake, you are selling one of the premium hatchbacks available in the Indian market; it cannot just catch fire while in motion due to “External substance”.

The car was purchased from Hans Hyundai, Moti Nagar, New Delhi about 3 years back. The car has run a mere 13,000 kms and was serviced at Hans Hyundai service center only a week before the incident took place. It looks to be a case of negligent servicing on the part of Hans Hyundai.

After this incident when I searched on the internet, I was shocked to find out that this is not an isolated incident of i20 catching fire. I urge everyone to share this with as many people as possible so that if any of your friends is planning to buy a Hyundai Vehicle, they consider these incidents and are able to take an informed decision.

Compare to the pic published, It looks marvelous when we see it in real. I dont know, why the pic is took with low quality when the product is good and satisfied, Moreover the front portion is good(& very strong) compare to previous version of i20, By seeing the front-side, we feel airbag is not required, Moreover its strong compared to other cars with average budget. Hyundai need to reduce the price( unnessaririly providing different variant with more price). This makes us to feel think of other cars :)

We Indians expected a model above i20 I.e., surely an i30(all features) but the company has given a blow by elite i20(no features) included.
Hating elite i20 so called copy model of i30.
