Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Honda Civic, in its current iteration, is a mixed bag that caters to different needs but falls short in some key areas. On the positive side, it boasts stunning design that rivals more expensive luxury cars, and its ride and handling package is tuned beautifully for Indian roads, making it a joy to drive on both potholed streets and twisty roads. The interior quality is top-notch, with soft-touch materials and plush leather upholstery that feel durable and long-lasting. However, it lacks in practicality, particularly with its low seating position that makes ingress and egress cumbersome, especially for the elderly or those with joint issues. The absence of a manual transmission for the petrol engine and an automatic for the diesel engine limits its appeal for enthusiasts and urban commuters. Despite these drawbacks, the Civics safety features, including six airbags and vehicle stability management, are commendable. Overall, while it may not be the most practical car, its design, quality, and driving dynamics make it a compelling choice for those who prioritize these aspects.

Price

Pricing details and changes

The Honda Civic in India is priced between Rs 17.7 lakh and Rs 22.3 lakh (ex-showroom). When you factor in the on-road costs, including taxes and other expenses, the price can range from approximately Rs 20 lakh to Rs 26 lakh, depending on the state and local taxes. This pricing positions the Civic at a premium level within its segment, competing closely with other sedans like the Skoda Octavia and the Toyota Corolla Altis. While it may seem pricey, the Civics build quality, safety features, and driving experience justify the cost for many buyers. However, its essential to consider the overall value proposition and whether the features and performance align with your needs and budget.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The mileage of the Honda Civic in India is respectable, though it varies depending on the engine choice. The petrol engine, paired with a CVT, offers around 16-17 kml in city driving and up to 20 kml on the highway. The diesel engine, available with a manual transmission, provides better fuel efficiency, with an estimated 22-25 kml in city driving and up to 28 kml on the highway. These figures make the Civic a reasonable choice for those concerned about running costs, especially if you opt for the diesel variant.

About

General information and overview

The Honda Civic is a sedan that stands out with its futuristic and stylish design, making it a head-turner on Indian roads. It is available with two engine options a smooth petrol engine paired with a CVT transmission and a practical diesel engine paired with a manual transmission. The interior is well-appointed with soft-touch materials, plush leather upholstery, and ample storage spaces, although the low seating position and limited boot space (430 litres) are notable drawbacks. The Civic excels in safety, featuring four disc brakes, six airbags, and advanced safety technologies like vehicle stability management. Its ride and handling are tuned perfectly for Indian conditions, offering a comfortable ride over potholes and broken roads while providing a thrilling experience on twisty roads. However, the lack of certain features like memory seats, electric adjust for the co-driver, and front parking sensors might be a disappointment for some buyers. Overall, the Civic is a solid choice for those who value design, quality, and driving dynamics, despite some practical limitations.

Summary
Civic 1.8 E MT (2008) is a premium looking powerful sedan coming from Honda. The car has been discontinued and is yet to be re-launched in the Indian markets. The 2008 model came with a powerful 1.8 l i-VTEC engine which gives out a maximum power of 132 bhp @ 6300 rpm. The sedan failed to find success in India and it is likely to get a reboot as a luxury car. The new generation Civic will be a rival to Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla Altis and Hyundai Elantra.

Honda claim an outstanding 55.4mpg combined fuel consumption figure for the Civic and CO2 emissions of 135g/km will also attract the attention of company car users. The engine has smooth pulling power from low in the rev range, with 251lb/ft of torque being produced at 2,000rpm. Its capable of an 8.6s sprint to 60mph too, with a maximum speed of 127mph giving it respectable top end reserves.

The Civic offers a really good driving position with firm side bolsters in the seat for support and the headrest hovering just behind your cranium. The pedals feel well weighted underfoot and theres a large foot rest area to give the left peg a break from clutching duties.
