- Ford Ikon was a very successful sedan from Ford which was launched in 1998 and was discontinued back in 2011. It became Indian car of the year in 1999. Ford Ikon was relaunched in Diesel and CNG variants in 2008 as Ford Ikon Flair. The car comes with a 1597cc diesel engine which gives out a power of 92 bhp @ 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 130 Nm @ 2500 rpm and runs on a 5 speed manual gearbox. Ford Ikon flair had a city mileage of 11 kmpl and highway mileage of 15 kmpl. The car had a boot space of 400 litres and a top speed of 160 kmph. In this segment this sedan was a rival to Maruti Esteem and Honda City.

Ford Motor Company is an American Automobile manufacturer with headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. It was founded on June 16, 1903 by Henry Ford. It is the second largest US based automaker and the fifth largest in the world based upon 2010 vehicle sales. One of their legendary vehicles in India was Ford Ikon. Ford Ikon is a sedan, offered by the Ford India Private Limited, based on Ford B platform. It was sold in India from 1998 until 2011. It was named the Indian Car of the year in 1999. Ford re-launched a diesel and a CNG variant of Ikon in 2008 with name Ikon Flair. Ford Ikon Flair featured better exteriors, rear spoiler, anti-theft system, leather seat covers and iPod music compatibility. This variant was also discontinued in 2011 following the launch of the New Fiesta in India, which is now sold as Fiesta Classic.
Ford Ikon Flair was a C segment sedan, available in India from 1998 to 2011. It had 4-cylinder petrol engine that made 1597cc of displacement. The power output of this 1.6-liter engine was 92 bhp at 5500 rpm. It produced maximum torque of 130 Nm at 2500 rpm. It had overall dimensions as 4140mm (length), 1634mm (width), 1379mm (height) having wheelbase of 2486mm and ground clearance of 165mm. It had power assisted rack and pinion type steering wheel which made the minimum turning radius of 4.9meters. It had McPherson struts as front suspension and heavy duty twist beam system as rear suspension. Ford Ikon had ventilated disc brakes of 240mm diameter in front tires and drum brakes of 1800mm diameter in rear tires. It had fuel tank capacity of 45 litres and gave an average mileage of 15kmpl (on highways) and 11kmpl (in city). Its kerb weight was 1000kgs with sitting capacity of 5 adult people. Its engine was mated with 5-speed manual transmission that gives this sedan a top speed of 160kmph.
It had chrome inserted gear knob and parking lever with chrome button. The steering wheel was shorter and looked sportier. The interior had light truffle theme and deluxe velour upholstery. It had remotely controlled outside rear view mirrors with fold function. All the windows of this Ikon were electrically controlled. This sedan was also enriched with many security features like central locking, child lock, headlamp on warning buzzer, center high mount stop lamp, radiator grille treatment, front and rear seat belts and fog lamps. The rear windshield had a defogger to remove the fog in rain and winters. The metallic finish instrument cluster on the dashboard consisted tachometer and dual trip meter. For the purpose of entertainment, it had MP3 player with AM/FM played over 45W front and rear speakers.
The Ford Ikon was equipped with a heavy duty air conditioner that provided the efficient cooling of the cabin. The fuel lid and boot are remotely controlled. Other miscellaneous features of this sedan included bold side moulding, full wheel cover, front & rear side impact beams, body colored bumpers and moulded door trims. It was available in six colors named as Panther Black, Silver Stone, Paprika Red, Vitro, Jewel Voilet and Diamond White. It had an ex-showroom price of 4.90 lakhs in Delhi.
