Audi has officially ended the production of the R8 supercar in March 2024, marking the end of an era for this iconic vehicle. The last R8 rolled off the assembly line at the Audi Böllinger Höfe site in Heilbronn, Germany. This final car was a Vegas Yellow coupe in the Performance Quattro Edition. In February 2024, Audi highlighted the 2024 Audi R8s advanced technology and performance capabilities. The car features a 5.2-liter V10 engine, producing 562 to 650 horsepower, and a top speed of 199 to 205 mph. The R8 also boasts Audis Quattro all-wheel-drive system, ensuring explosive acceleration and stability. I believe the integration of advanced safety features like adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking makes the R8 a smart choice for safety-conscious enthusiasts.

In 2023, Audi released the R8 GT, the grand finale of the second-generation R8, with a powerful 620hp engine and limited to just 333 units. This model featured visible carbon fiber aerodynamic enhancements and a unique wheel package with Michelin Cup 2 performance tires. I think this special edition is a fitting tribute to the R8s legacy.

In 2022, Audi introduced the V10 Performance RWD model of the R8, which increased power to 562bhp through the rear wheels. This model was part of the mid-cycle refresh that also saw mechanical and exterior changes, including a more aggressive design language. I believe this rear-wheel-drive version adds a new dimension to the R8s driving experience.

In 2020, Audi launched the R8 RWD (Rear Wheel Drive) as a permanent model in the lineup, rather than a special edition. This model retained the 533bhp power output of the standard V10 but was eventually phased out in most markets by 2021. I think this move was a nod to driving purists who prefer rear-wheel drive.
