Hero MotoCorp Working on Multiple EV Projects

Hero MotoCorp, the country's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, announced during live streaming of its 10th-anniversary celebrations that it is expanding its focus beyond traditional mobility and is already investing in electric mobility products for both personal and public transportation. In addition, the brand intends to increase its focus on the premium motorcycle and scooter segments in Bangladesh, Nepal, Latin America, and Africa.

According to Dr Pawan Munjal, Chairman and CEO, Hero MotoCorp, the company is actively working on numerous electric vehicle programmes and platforms as well as various other modular mobility solutions. He further stated that the company's relationship with Gogoro Inc is of global significance. Gogoro Inc is a Taiwanese electric vehicle business that operates the world's largest battery-swapping network.

The company desires to contribute to the world’s efforts of reduction in usage of fossil fuels for vehicles. Hence, the automaker is looking for the alternatives such as hydrogen, wind and solar power. According to Dr Munjal, sustainability is in the work ideology of the company and they will continue to operate in accordance with these principles.

In January of this year, the automobile maker passed the 100 million overall manufacturing record, emphasising its strong focus on worldwide operations. As per the annual report, Hero MotoCorp continue to invest in the development of products for the international markets to grow the global presence. Despite COVID-19 interruptions, the company sold a total of 5,791,539 two-wheelers in the 2020-21 fiscal year.

They aim to reach the target of the next 100 million within this decade and hint that the 200 millionth product might not be a two-wheeler. Also, during the celebrations, Pawan Munjal revealed the first look of their upcoming EV. However, he didn’t reveal the whole look and other mechanical specifications, while the electric scooter appears to rival the Ola electric scooter.
