2020 KTM 1290 Super Duke R was recently spotted testing in the Alps, carrying an uncamouflaged body with every possible detail that one requires for the flagship street machine. The headlight is based on the familiar design language but this time, the size has grown considerably along with the shape of the glass. The black USD front forks are seen with orange highlights while the fuel tank has grown in such a way that the extensions are more grounded and huge than the older design where they were horizontal and short. The frame is completely different from the older version, showing integrated rear subframe in a metallic finish so neat that it looks more like a part of the body panels.
The massive fuel tank ends into a thin seat and rear section is raised well like a proper track bike. 2020 KTM 1290 Super Duke R comes with a neat exhaust, twisted pipes, and five-spoke light alloy wheels. The tail section flaunts thin LED section and fender-attached indicators with clear lens. The tires are similar in size to the older model while grabrail with storage box seems like an accessory for the streetfighter. The instrument console looks new, with more surface area for the values and new controller on the left side of the handlebar. The official unveiling of the 2020 model is expected to happen at the EICMA in November 2019.
2020 KTM 1290 Super Duke R is expected to use the familiar 1301cc, twin-cylinder engine with 177 HP at 9750 rpm and 141 Nm at 8500 rpm. It is the most powerful motor under the frame of a production-spec streetfighter as regular bikes are restricted around 150 HP of maximum power. The older model weighs just 204 kg while one can expect the 2020 model to shed weight further through the new frame and lightweight parts. The claimed top speed of 280 kph may stay the same on both the generations.
