Porsche Macan

Porsche Automobil Holding SE or Porsche is a world renowned German holding company which deals in the investments of automotive industry. It was founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche as a vehicle development work and consulting company and was called Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche GmbH. It now works in co-operation with Volkswagen AG which also has become its parent company. It has its current headquarters in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany where also located its main factory. It has extended its work exponentially in the years since its inception and now deals in designing and production of consumer models, racing models, prototypes and concept cars, tractors, hybrid and electric vehicles, aircraft engines and motorsport.

Porsche India is a subsidiary of Porsche which since 2004, has been selling Luxury cars in India with the help of its parent company, Volkswagen Group which is also the official importer of Porsche cars in India. Recently, Porsche has launched an entry-level compact crossover SUV, Porsche Macan at 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show at Los Angeles Convention Center on November 19, 2013 in Los Angeles, California, US. It was initially announced as a developing project in November 2010 and was formally announced in March 2011. Porsche Macan is based on the Volkswagen's MLB platform and also on Audi Q5 and derived its name from the Indonesian word Macan which means tiger. It is the little sibling of Cayenne and had also got its codename Cajun (CAyenne JUNior) from it. It is attracting the eyes of the whole world towards itself due to its superfluous design, extraordinary features and power-packed performance figures while also carrying the legacy of the world's topmost Luxury cars brand.

Exterior

We can also hope to see four-cylinder Macans in both petrol and diesel variants by 2015. Porsche Macan has got the most remarkable and eye-catching exteriors with an aerodynamic and stylish design. It includes large front air ducts whose size depends on the chosen variant (muscular front apron, side air blades with strikingly large air intakes, stylish front spoiler lip and body colored side blades in case of Macan Turbo), stylish clamshell hood that superbly extends into the flanks, Bi-Xenon headlights with PDLS, dynamic cornering light and daytime running light with 4-point LEDs in case of Macan Turbo and Bi-Xenon headlights in case of Macan S and Macan S Diesel, Lava Black side blades for Macan S and Macan S Diesel, steeply raked hood, sloping roofline, windshield at an aggressive angle, one-piece tailgate which opens at its bumper level, highly angled rear windshield, A-pillars with smaller quarter windows, rear wiper mechanism with an integrated electronic opening mechanism, a flat under tray from front to rear to smooth the airflow beneath the body, radiator shutters behind the central front air duct to reduce drag according to the cooling needs of the engine, an exhaust flap for robust acoustic qualities, silver colored brake callipers in case of Macan S and Macan S Diesel and red colored brake callipers for Macan Turbo, 18-inch wheels for Macan S and Macan S Diesel and 19-inch wheels for Macan Turbo, 2 twin tailpipes in outside left and right, large ORVMs and many more features to take your breath away. This marvellous SUV has a length of 4681mm (Macan S and Macan S Diesel) and 4699mm (Macan Turbo), a width of 1923mm and a height of 1624mm as its dimensions and a curb weight of 1865kgs for Macan S and Macan S Diesel and 1925kgs for Macan Turbo. The optional external features includes wheels up to 21-inch, carbon side blades, PDLS included Bi-Xenon headlights, a privacy glass and a Sport Chrono Package for Macan S and Macan S Diesel(except last two) and all the aforementioned features including PDLS+ and a panoramic roof system for Macan Turbo(except PDLS included Bi-Xenon headlights which is its standard feature).

Interior

Porsche Macan is gifted with an equally remarkable, beautifully crafted and comfortable interior features which is also lashed with the most advanced technology to give you a complete dreamy experience. It includes a high-gloss Piano Black interior package including Alcantara seats inserts in case of Macan S and Macan S Diesel and leather & brushed aluminium package for Macan Turbo, a tachometer with silver-colored instrument dial and an alarm system for all three, a CRD Plus audio system with a 7-inch colored touchscreen, a 2-zone Automatic Climate Control and high variability for Macan S and Macan S Diesel, Porsche Communication Management(PCM) with navigation module and a large touchscreen and a BOSE surround sound system with 545W total output and 14 loudspeakers including an active subwoofer for Macan Turbo, a multifunction sports steering wheel with shift paddles, Auto Start/Stop function and a SPORT button for all three, an electrically 8-way adjustable driver's seat for Macan S and Macan S Diesel and 18-way adaptive driver's sports seat with memory function for Macan Turbo and many more features. All three variants have a huge boot space of 500liters.

The fuel tank capacity is 65 litres for Macan S, 75 litres for Macan Turbo and 60 litres for Macan S Diesel. The optional interior features includes a Porsche Communication Management (PCM), BOSE surround sound system and 18-way adaptive driver's sports seat with memory function for Macan S, all the aforementioned features plus an electrically extendable trailer hitch and an Adaptive cruise control including Porsche Active Safe for Macan S Diesel and all the features mentioned above plus a Burmester high-end surround sound system for Macan Turbo. Also, Sport Chrono Package includes a SPORT PLUS button, a stopwatch and Launch Control.

Engine and Gearbox

Macan S has got a 3.6L, DFI, bi-turbo V6 petrol engine which gives a maximum power of 340bhp at 5500-6500rpm and a maximum torque of 460Nm at 1450-5000rpm with a top speed of 254kmph. It takes just 5.4 seconds to reach 0-100kmph mark and has got Vario Cam Plus and a 7-speed PDK transmission. Macan Turbo has got the same petrol engine but with boosted performance which generates a maximum power of 400bhp at 6000rpm and a maximum torque of 550Nm at 1350-4500rpm with a top speed of 266kmph. It takes just 4.8 seconds to reach 0-100kmph mark and has also got Vario Cam Plus and a 7-speed PDK transmission. Macan S Diesel has got a 3.0L, CRDi, V6 turbo diesel engine with a maximum power of 245bhp at 4000-4250rpm and a maximum torque of 580Nm at 1750-2500rpm with a top speed of 230kmph. It takes 6.3 seconds to reach the 0-100kmph mark and has got an SCR system, VTG and a 7-speed PDK transmission.

Suspension and Braking System

Porsche Macan has got the steel spring suspension for Macan S and Macan S Diesel while Macan Turbo got that in addition to a Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM includes electronically controlled dampers with three settings). The PASM is an optional feature for S variants. Air suspension (to adjust ride height and lower the rear when stationary) including PASM is optional for all the three variants. Porsche Macan has got the 6-piston mono-bloc fixed-calliper front brakes having 350mm disks in Macan S and Macan S Diesel and 360mm disks in Macan Turbo. Also, present an optional Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) in case of Macan S and Macan Turbo. An off-road mode is also available for all the three variants which includes an adjusted gear shift, accelerator pedal response, torque split and clutch to increase traction on slippery surfaces and can also raise the ground clearance if the car is fitted with the optional Air suspension system. It can be activated by the mere push of a button on the central console. Also, present a downhill assistance button to help maintain a constant vehicle speed during its descent.

Variants and Price

Porsche Macan is simply over-priced with a price tag of INR 1 Crore for the Diesel S model and INR 1.11 Crore for the Turbo variant.
