The joint venture between Mahindra and Renault aimed to leverage Mahindras dealership network and Renaults technology. However, the partnership did not yield the expected results, and by 2010, Renault decided to exit the venture. Mahindra then took over and rebranded the car as the Verito. I think this rebranding was a necessary step to revive the cars image.

By April 2010, Renault announced its exit from the joint venture with Mahindra due to the poor performance of the Logan. Mahindra took over the operations, and Renault continued to supply key parts like the engine and transmission. The Logans sales had dipped significantly, from around 2,000 units per month in 2008 to about 350 in March 2010. I think this move was inevitable given the Logans struggles in the Indian market.

In March 2010, the annual sales of the Mahindra Logan dropped to 5,332 units, a decline of over 60% from the previous year. This decline was despite the overall growth in the A3 segment in India. The cars design, pricing, and competition from rivals like Tata Indigo and Maruti Suzuki Dzire were cited as major reasons for this decline. I believe the outdated design was a significant factor in this failure.

The global recession led to low demand for cars, and the Logan, which was already facing stiff competition, suffered greatly. By the end of 2009, the sales had fallen to around 5,000 units, a sharp drop from the 28,000 units sold in 2008. This economic downturn was a major blow to the cars sales.
